Imagery

1. What scenes, moment, descriptive, passage, phrases, or words stand out in your reading of the story?
Answer Eventually the family's hopes for learning fastened on me, the youngest. I remeber-- I think I remember, for I could not have been more than five-- one frigid day Pa huddled on a rickety stool before he coal stove, took me on his knee and studied me gravely. I was a skinny little thing, they tell me, wih large, solemn eyes

2. Did a particular image make you feel happy, or frightened, or disturbed, or angry? Why?
Answer I did not feel frightened or angry with this story. But I think it has too many disturbed scence. I feel happy with thier success.

3. Which of your five senses did this image appeal to? What do you associate with this image, and why? What do you think the author wants you to feel about a certain image?
Answer  First scene is when the family planted tree in the farm. They are farmer family. This scene can express how poor the family is.
Second scene is when Buddy talked to mom about his education. He showed that he wants to learn.
Third scene is when Buddy became a professor. It shows that poor person can have success in learning not only for rich people. Forth scene is when Buddy and his sibling had meeting after their parent passed away. They talked together about their success. Fifth scene is the endin of the story. They gave each other a gift when they had meeting.

4. How do you think your reactions to the imagery in the story contribute to the overall meaning of the story?
Answer  If I were Buddy's parent, I would feel proud of him. He did not have chance to learn when he born. He fought his own money and his own chance to learn. I am the one who has chance to learn my mon and my dad give me money to learn. I don't know that I can be professor like Buddy or not. He is hard-working man. I want to be like him.

Point of View

Answer 1st  person point of view , the story told a first-person perspective, in which the narrator is one of the characters in the story and refers to himself or herself as "T"

2. What are the advantages of the chosen point of view? Does it furnish any clues as to the purpose of the story?
Answer The advantages of using this point of view is it can express the feeling of the main character easily that using other kind of point of view. In this story, it had a lot of conversation. Conversation is the main thing to move on this story.

3. Is the narrator reliable or unreliable? Does he/she have a limited knowledge or understanding of characters and events in the story? Does the narrator know almost everything about one character or every character, including inner thoughts?
Answer The narrator is narrator. He has an understanding of characters. Narrator uses a good way to move on the story and narrator does not make the story feel boring. He can express the feeling of main character correctly.

4. Does the author use point of view primarily to reveal or conceal? Does he ever unfairly withhold important information known to the focal character?
Answer The author used point of view primarily to reveal. He never unfairly withhold important information.

Characters

1. Who is/are the main character(s) in the story? What does the main character look like?
Answer Buddy, he has a lot of leadership. He is the youngest son in the family but he has the most maturity.

2. Describe the main character's situation. Where does he/she live alone or with others? What does the main character do for a living, or is he/she dependent on others for support?
Answer Buddy was the youngest child in a Black poor family.He became more father than brother. \Because of the poor condition, Buddy can't go to school. Poor family just ignored the education.

3. What are some of the chief characteristics(personality traits) of the character? How are these characteristics revealed in the story? How does the main character interact with other characters? Note the degree of complexity of his/her behavior, thought, and feelings; their appearances, their habits, mannerisms, speech, attitudes and values. What is the main character's attitude towards his/her life? Is he/she happy or sad, content or discontented? Why?
Answer Buddy is the main character. He was the youngest son in the family but he had the most maturity. He knew that what he has to do next. He could control other family member. He could take care of his family but after his parent passed away everyone in family were separated but in the end they had a meeting and talk about their achievement. He achieved the thing he wanted by his own. He was happy after he achieve his goal. 

4. What sort of conflict is the character facing? How is this conflict revealed? Is it resolved? If so, how?
Answer His family didn't have enough money to support him for education. He had to work for his own. He didn't have a lot of chance to learn but in the end he became a professor. 

5. Is any character a developing character? If so, is his change a large or a small one? Is it a plausible change for him? Is he sufficiently motivated? Is the change given sufficient time?
Answer His family did not have too many role in his life. He usually fight for his own achievement. In the end they met. They all talked about their achievement.

Setting

1. Place: the  geographical location of the story- a country or a city, a large city or a small village, indoors or outdoors both
 The 14th  floor of Fifth Avenue Hotel, Harlem, New York, Charley’s apartment Lenox Avenue
              
2. Time: the period in history, the season of the year, the day of the month, and/or the hour of the day in which the even of the story occur.

In the late afternoon to evening

3. Social environment: the location of characters and events in a particular society and/or a particular social class (lower, middle, or upper class).

 A great poverty of sharecroppers family, a hard life which full of struggle.

Plot questionaires

1. What is the story about? What ate the main events in the story, and how are they related to each other?
Answer  Buddy was the yougest child in a Black poor family. They lived in poverty. His parents were only a sharecroppers. The oldest brother Charley took important part in Buddy’s life. He became more father than brother. Because of the poor condition, education was almost ignored in Buddy’s family, but his parents and Charley encouraged him as a youngest child to continue his study. Moreover, Charley often says that Buddy must break the chain of poverty by education and becomes somebody.
2.Are the main events of the story arranged chronoligically, or are they arranged in another way.
Answer They arranged chronoligically because this story showed the growing of kids.
3. How is the story narrated? Are flashbacks, summaries, stories within the story used?
Answer The story narrated flashbacks. It told us the story of one family. How their kids became a successful person.
4.Is the plot fast-paced or slow-paced?
Answer The story is slow-paced because story showed the growing of family step-by-step.
5. How do the thoughts, behaviors, and actions of characters move the plot forward?
Answer The kids has grown up. They want to have a better life. Their wants move this story forward
6.What are the conflicts in the plot? Are they physical, intellectual, moral emotion? Are they resolved? How are the resolved? Is the main conflict between good and evil sharply differentiated, or is it more subtle and complex?
Answer This story is about the one family's story. The story tells us how they grow up and how they become success. Many problems occur in this story. It is moral emotion.
7. What is the climax of the story and what point in the story does the climax occur? Is the ending of the story happy, unhappy, or indetermined? Is it fairly achieved?
Answer The climax of this story is when the kids reached their successful. The ending of the story is happy ending.
8. Does the plot have unity? Are all the episodes relevant to the total meaning or effect of the story? Does each incident grow logically out of the preceding incident and lead naturally to the next?
Answer It has unity. It shows us the teamwork of family members. They all help each other to success. Their goal were achieved
9. What use does the story make of chance and coincidence? Are these occurences used to initiate, to complicate, or to resolve the story? How improbable are they?
Answer The story tells us about the family's story. Life must has obstacle. They help each other to pass it and to solve it.
